From there to here and beyond ...

I grew up in TN and NC, the child of parents who were "secret artists." They never realized that art could be more than a hobby and always assumed that creativity was part of what you could do in your free time. After retiring from more than 30 years of teaching, my mother is FINALLY pursuing her own artistic interests with her incredibly talented and detailed oil and watercolor painting.

My father is an accomplished photographer and woodworker. My sister is also a very talented photographer as well as being a skilled ceramic artist. So you might say creative expression runs in my family.

My first career began after I earned a BA in English from St. Andrews College in Lauringburg, NC (1991) and an M.Ed. in Counseling from UNC-Chapel Hill, NC (1992). I worked as a middle school guidance counselor for 7 years before transitioning into graphic design in 1999.

After spending a number of years in print production with a local newspaper and another year with a print publication business, I finally branched out onto my own with Intuitive Design in 2007.

The name "Intuitive Design" comes from the way I come up with the ideas and inspirations for my designs and artwork. In talking with a person about their business or their space, I see images and visuals that often are exactly what my client is looking for. My creative intuition is one of my most powerful design tools.

In addition to stepping fully into freelance graphic design with full service in both print and web design, I also began painting commissioned artwork for select clients. I have painted my whole life, but only begun doing professional commissions in the last two years. I have found that I enjoy and thrive with a balance of both fine and digital art.

I am now looking to expand my comissioned painting and wall sculpture projects into the corporate and professional settings as I enjoy the large format of large spaces and bold, design and color.
